The 393 MW peaking gas plant is designed to be used only during periods of peak demand over a period of 20 years. The investors are paying $385 million to build the facility, but Ontario hydro users are paying for it with increased electricity rates and giving the investors a generous return on their investment every year. The final bill will be around $1 Billion over 20 years --- and after paying for it the people of Ontario won't even own it!

A 393 megawatt gas- powered peaking plant will  waste 65% of the natural gas it uses and will  pollute (if run only 10% of the time):

155 million kgs of greenhouse gases every year

4 million kgs greenhouse gases every day

172,527 kgs greenhouse gases every hour

Almost 3 TONNES of greenhouse gases EVERY MINUTE

About Children of the Greenbelt

The Children of the Greenbelt represents the young population that stands to inherit the 1.8 million acres of Ontario's Greenbelt -- Protected Countryside, Natural Heritage Areas, wetlands, lakes, rivers, forests and farmland --that the McGuinty Government created for the next generation in 2004 and which they stand ready to steward, defend, and grow.

"Stop behaving as if there is no next generation."
